Peppermint Tea – Order of the Day

Apologies for the lack of blogging recently. Juggling too many balls over the last few months but hopefully I’ve now settled down into a nice new slower routine. I say slower – it’s more a way focusing on fewer tasks each day that I can actually complete rather constantly having a long list that’s never ending. Good plan, well done me!! That and now drinking peppermint tea in the afternoon. Sipping this delicious minty tea has been a complete game changer. I discovered so many peppermint tea health benefits that I thought I’d share my discovery. (Late to the herbal drinks party I know)

I should point out that coffee is still my fave and my go to treat each day. (There’s no way on earth I’d give up that particular comfort blanket). It’s just that I’ve substituted my afternoon Twinings cuppa for this naturally caffeine free beverage instead.

So, day one of the latest lockdown and although the schools are staying open this time, my daughter has been sent home due to a technical problem with the fire alarms. My son has also been furloughed from his job and my husband is still working from home – oh and the two dogs are bouncing around the place. It’s no wonder I’ve been looking for ways to live a more harmonious life filled with peppermint and calm.

Peppermint Tea Health Benefits

Anyway, what made me (a self confessed coffee lover) reach over to the herbal tea shelf? Well, as old age started bullying my body, one of it’s prime target areas was my digestive system and in particular, bloating. Tummy bloating doesn’t sound that bad does it? But actually, when it gets to the point that you’d rather wear elasticated pjs all day (which does sound quite nice to be fair) because of the discomfort, it’s time to start thinking about the causes and looking for possible remedies. I’d read about peppermint tea health benefits many times and ignored them but this time I thought I’d give it a shot. I’m glad I did.

One of the most significant benefits of drinking peppermint tea is it’s ability to reduce bloating and aid digestion. It gently soothes and relaxes the digestive system, no nasty cramps or ‘other’ smelly side effects. It’s particularly good for people who suffer from IBS. (Obviously be sure to see a Doctor if you have any health concerns – do not self diagnose!) and I do genuinely feel that it’s calming too (or perhaps I’m just so desperate for a calmer life, I imagine it).

Oh and another benefit is that because it’s naturally caffeine free, it’s a great drink to have before you go to bed without your sleep being affected. It’s also great for freshening your breath! Great sleep without honky breath – winner winner! All in all, it’s a lovely any time of the day beverage.

It’s stocked in most supermarkets and if you’re looking for a bargain, Lidl have their own Knightsbridge range of teas that are pretty darn good.

So there you have it, my discovery of peppermint tea shared with the blogging world and no I’m not wearing PJ’s!

Happy weekend.

  1. I will be sure to give this a go next week – it might stop me reaching for the cheese, and crisps, and anything else unhealthy! 🙂
